🇿🇦Can South Africa's 'cradle of Islam' survive gentrification? | Al Jazeera English 1

A controversial court case between an old community and a land developer is under way in Cape Town.
The community of Bo Kaap is worried its Malay heritage, which dates back more than 300 years, is being lost to big business.
Developers want to build new flats and houses, but locals have been protesting and preventing construction vehicles from entering the site.

Al Jazeera’s Fahmida Miller reports from Cape Town.

  1. Unbelievable! When the rest of South Africa is failing and crumbling, they're complaining about gentrification? New investment and new residents in their area?
First-World problems for this corner of this backward, third-World failed state.

  2. Here in London we went through gentrifcation and I can tell you that once its done everything goes up in price, shop rents, home rent, product items ect and the area become unaffordable for the locals then its bye bye poor people and hello cash money!. life goes on
