My homeless brother died on the streets of Glasgow. Who will be next?

Mark Starr died on the streets of Glasgow earlier this year; his family found out five weeks later on social media. As part of the Guardian’s empty doorway series we retraced his final steps alongside his brother Tony. Did Mark have friends? Did anyone give him support? And how hard is it to be homeless in Glasgow?

  1. It is not necessary to be homeless! I worked with the homeless! There are many. Many support systems. In place and laws to stop homelessness. The problem is if that person is unable to conform to society enough that they can accept the help.

  2. Went to housing with my daughter living in another city .lost her job her council told her had to be pregnant or claim asylum for any help.would left her on the streets,we insisted come home gave up her flat etc we paid of the debt running up before got out of hand .was getting no help get back on her feet . some not so lucky .seem to house foreigners refugees before our own. Surprised how many vulnerable women and other people they leave on the streets .that week council housed 78 syrian families wonder why so much resentment. my daughter born here worked, payed taxes wait for help is far to long fact can sanction deal with people end of a phone got no emotional attachment to deal with it end up saying have to wait so many weeks is wrong wouldn't leave a dog that Long.

  3. how many empty properties in the uk , how many homeless in the uk ? do the maths , when you look up these numbers , someone mainly private landlords are profiting from leaving properties empty , this has to change

  4. Build more houses rents be cheaper in the end less homeless people simple solution.

However it never happen as to many greedy fu**ers making a lot money out property market like landlords who hot 2 or more properties.

Go abroad view wages and then house prices you realise how much we been ripped off in this country for rent, rail, council tax list goes on.
