  1. I new these were used but thought it was just the turret I didn’t know the tank body was ever buried as well I just assumed it was literally just a cement slab over a hole in the ground made of wood or just a few metal beams

  2. Russian Commanders during the battle of Stalingrad buried their tanks to provide more defensive placements. They could take a hit from German Tigers to the turret without being disabled, and getting close enough to get a damaging hit would allow quick attacks by T-34s to eliminate the Tigers on their weaker side and back armour
