Leaders of NATO’s member states are gathering in London in search of unity amid division. Yesterday they were hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace to mark the 70th anniversary of the alliance’s founding. What was supposed to be a show of harmony was tarnished by a renewed airing of differences between French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Donald Trump. The spat started at a news conference, where President Trump took on a new role defending NATO, after previously having long been its main critic.
