The past week has seen a surge of claims on social media that arson is to blame for most of Australia’s massive bushfires.

But these have mostly been based on inaccurate reporting of police figures, as BBC Outside Source’s Ros Atkins explains.

  1. OMG…the world is going to hell because you'd rather believe Right Wingers – whose only agenda is to keep you poor by paying low wages(no benefits and they pay little in taxes) – all their media is simply propaganda to keep the bottom half of the world fighting with each other.

I got news for you conspiracy theorists…BBC is actually the real news and the crap you watch is designed to keep you poor and dependent on your bosses…

Why does anyone need government help if they are paid fairly for their hard work?

  2. Stop giving money because the Australian government is lighting those fires. The charities are owned by the politicians and friends. Wake up people. Those fires have nothing to do with global warming. Fires start two ( 2 ) ways only. 1. Lightening. Very rare. Usually those fires go out quickly. 2. %99 percent of fires are started by government employees with gasoline and a cigarette lighter. They do to to control people while they act like hero’s putting out fires they start. This is government corruption. Do not be fools. Same goes for USA fake fires. Government started.

  3. What about the kangaroos and peoples homes, what I find humorous is that some little ass wipe decided it’s a good idea to start a bush fire IN A DROUGHT and when the fire goes out of control the ass hole couldn’t be bothered to call the fire brigade, I wonder how the feel after seeing their house being burnt to a crisp

  4. YOU BUNCH OF POLITICAL MANIPULATORS, ARSON WAS A BIG PROBLEM THERE. I URGE EVERYONE TO WATCH THE AUSTRALIAN TV CHANNELS, ITSALL OVER YOUTUBE AS USUAL BBC PRODUCING MATERIAL IN FAVOUR TO ITS OWN INTERESTS

  5. So the eco terrorists got busted pushing global warming… What a bunch of sick psychopaths.. They should get life in prison or the death penalty. The same happens in california, they miraculously know exactly where fires will be started, then gsat pictures show strategically where the fires were started.. This global warming scam is killing people now. These eco terrorists pushing global warming must be watched closely because they are a worldwide criminal organization. Follow the money! They want us paying carbon credits!!!!

  6. The Fire Chief is a politician. Every year these numb skulls put our lives in danger, because of “Climate Change” narratives. How many more will die for this hoax? This year is dry and hot, blah blah, blah. Amnesiatocs they say the same every year, Youtube back one, two, three years. Same lie, same narrative.

  7. Wasn't there a threat of "consequences" directed toward Australia and the Australian people for mingling in the affairs of North Korea? When you hear the word "consequence" don't think of military action or sanctions, instead, think of attacks based on foreign hackers, spies, super propaganda, fake news and lies to create mass confusion and division amongst your countrymen and attacks against the land you live on. The 1% of the world's richest people might be playing a huge role in the midst in all of this chaos that is going on in the world today.

  8. Arsonists don't go into wilderness areas to start fires, they're invariably near built up areas, roads etc and usually extinguished quickly because of that. Only a few thousand of the 13 million hectares burnt were due to arson. Every year there are dozens of arsonists arrested, mostly children.

The large Orroral fire near Canberra (look it up) was started by an Army helicopter's landing lights as it landed in a paddock. That's how dry the grass was. It took hold so fast the crew couldn't put it out. That was a grassy paddock, not what you'd call a high fuel load forest understory, which is what they target in fuel reduction.

As reported, all but 24 of the arrests were for things like starting a fire using machinery. That can be a plough hitting a rock and creating a spark, a welder or grinder, or driving a vehicle with a hot muffler through a grassy paddock. Or it could be some idiot flicking a cigarette butt out a car window.

Shit happens all the time so we don't need conspiracy theories. The problem is that we, through our own actions accelerating climate change, are cutting into all the safety factors that we've been relying on in the past. We are no match for events on this scale.
