UK airports plan huge expansion

UK airports are planning to expand almost three times faster than the Government’s climate change advisers say is sustainable.

Sky News research shows that 21 of the country’s biggest airports intend to add 192 million passengers over the next 10-20 years.

  1. Trains were much much more enviroment unfriendly when they was the same age as planes are now and electric/hybrid planes are going to make first flights soon as well as airlines using biofuel

  2. Air travel is actually not that bad for the environment, it takes more polluting cars off the roads and aircraft are becoming more environmentally friendly and more fuel efficient at a rapid pace

  3. Dammit. And I thought private industry was currently responding faster to the climate change emergency more than the governments were!? Absolute shame. Airport should be modernising, not expanding. Just because China is doing it doesn’t mean everyone should follow suit. China is not a good example of how we should be living our lives. All except their ever expanding electric transit and car system.

  4. They can't start closing runways until battery/solar powered planes are commonplace. The technology needs to develop first before we can make financially sensible changes to aviation.

  5. The point here is that they aren't expanding the airports with more runways. Other than Heathrow. The plan is to cater to bigger more efficient single-aisle aircraft which requires more parking space, bigger terminals along with better connections to ensure that the airports are far more efficient. The airports mentioned (other than Heathrow) can only do that within it's remit.

  6. So, with brexit the UK has already lost the equivalent to 1 trillion dollars. Most people landing on those airports are there for business. Business that are relocating all over Europe. I don't see the point of so much expansion
