  2. Medieval Europe was NOT a time of widespread illiteracy. Please stop spreading myths. There are medieval books about farming that were written by farmers for farmers… because they could read. The myth of illiteracy arose from the fact that in medieval England the language of the aristocrats was French, and that the Bible was written in Latin. The average English peasant could only read English.
