Domestic violence cases rise in Puerto Rico as island struggles

As Puerto Rico continues to struggle with the coronavirus pandemic and damage from Hurricane Maria and earthquakes, domestic violence cases have been on the rise. Advocates are demanding more funding, even though the island is in a debt crisis. Gen senior writer and Ida B. Wells fellow Andrea González-Ramírez joined CBSN to discuss her year-long investigation.

  1. Sirach 25:24-25 Of the woman came the beginning of sin, and through her we all die. 25 Give the water no passage; neither a wicked woman liberty to gad abroad.

Ecclesiasticus 25:19 “All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman: let the portion of a sinner fall upon her.”

Ecclesiasticus 26:25 A shameless woman shall be counted as a dog; but she that is shamefaced will fear the Lord.

  2. femicide is a term created by feminazis in order to distract us from the important issues facing an area.
they use it to take away attention from corruption or deaths overall.

  3. As usual, homicides statistics in PR are being compared with those of the US. This is an error. We have to acknowledge that the classification of ‘missing person’ in the US is readily used to hide actual homicide statistics. There are just no real places to hide a body in PR for very long. Ergo, higher homicide stats & lower missing person stats in PR… On a more controversial note, which I’m sure I’ll get flack for, the police and justice system are shields not spears. Meaning in this case that your safety is your responsibility, asking of the police to be an intervening force is exactly what leads to the problems we’ve been seeing stateside. And as far as local narratives go, yes machismo is a problem but so is conceptualizing women as virgin marys.

  4. My aunt died burned alive in there by her fiancé decades ago & much hasn't changed. Families with children are left defenseless against this. Decades of underfunded prevention programs & education, the law can't do much until proof is given by victims. Shelters filled with people with housing crisis claiming abuse with no proof; while real victims are trapped in homes, by laws that do not protect them. Delays after Maria & earthquakes in December/ January & now pandemic increased the crisis while children end up in foster care, sad; SMH!.
