Tesla's 1,000,000 Mile Battery Is A Game Changer

Tesla is just weeks away from introducing its much anticipated, lower-cost, longer-lasting battery for its fleet of electric vehicles.

The battery is said to be revealed at Tesla’s ‘battery day,’ which is an event in which Musk plans to showcase a number of significant advances in battery and battery production technology from Tesla and its partners.

This new battery, dubbed the “million-mile” battery, is said to do exactly what it says on the tin – and that is to last in excess of a million miles before needing replacement.

Tesla is already leading the pack in terms of reliability; they offer an 8-year warranty on their Model 3 cars (up to 160,000 miles.) They also offer the guarantee that their batteries will maintain no less than 75% capacity under normal use.

So, why does Tesla need this new battery, and why is there so much buzz surrounding its announcement?

  1. My understanding is that batteries degrade over time even without recharging cycles. At an average of 12k miles/year this battery would last in theory 80 years or so. Realistically, how long might this battery last?

  2. $100/kWh is nowhere near to the cost per kWh from the electricity grid! c’mon Elon, get it down to at least $1 or less (still much higher than the electric company)..

  3. Can we use double transistor and double capacitor as battery cell then use one charge the other through the load as path of current and does it in triad arrangement

  4. And Troy Reed made a magnetic motor car! One standard 12 volt battery was all that was needed. Can you imagine how cheaply you could convert your existing vehicle.?You might ask the Green Deal people why they aren't behind self charging electric or magnetic motor vehicles?

  5. Lets hope elon musk is wrong! I sent him messages trying to contact him on one of the social media platforms asking him about the brain chip implant and he couldn't even reply back! I question what he says and what he does……..since
