DW reporter says he was tortured in Belarus prison | DW News

International pressure continues to mount against Belarus for forcing a commercial flight to land and seizing a journalist on board. Many reporters in Belarus have been prosecuted in recent months, including DW reporter Alexander Burakov. He’s just been released after serving a 20 day sentence, during which he says he was tortured.

Burakov is among the dozens of reporters who’ve faced prosecution by the Belarusian regime in recent months. Exiled journalists can only watch from across the border in fear.

  1. nOT SO BAD AS aMERICAN jails and prisons, and the treatment would pale by comparison to
the US CIA and Pentagon Rendition! It's the CIA behind the opposition rebellion in Belarus.
The plane was not hijacked. A complaint came in from Switzerland. The pilot, once informed,
turned the plane around to land in Belarus. Belarusian pilots had nothing to do with it, they
did not force any pilot or plane to land; he did so of his own decision and volition.

  2. People need to wake up at understand the military-industrial complex is pushing journalists and Western media to carry out their agenda because how I sit there's always a position in a country on any country that have an opposition is totally being destroyed the US and Mike Pompeii create a in my country I remove the government the put a government would favor of the United States because we have oil no we cannot renegotiate our deal with eggs on because our country had no experience about oil no the West is taking advantage of a my country

  3. Belarus, another regime change target for the US and its supporting western allies. Can't trust DW or other western MSM to report facts about situations in nations that you are all trying to overthrow the government. Follow the money.

  4. Belarus had been turning toward Europe in recent years, but Putin got his claws into Lukashenko (and now there's no turning back). Lukashenko knows that if he walked his atrocities back, he'd be subject to human right's violations (and possibly imprisonment). So he silenced Parliament (which has been mostly stripped of its constitutional powers anyway) and Lukashenko must now control by any means (esp brute force and torture).

  5. Wow West is interested in freedom of journalists!!! What about Julian Assange, Chelsia Manning and Edward Snowden etc who are being tortured and locked in Western dungeons.

  6. EU must understand that Lukashenko has past the point of no return – he's now a renegade. If he looses power it, that will be the end of him and his closest associates.
