Armenian Prime Minister wins another term after snap elections | DW News

Armenian prime minister Nikol Pashinyan has won another term in office after snap parliamentary elections. Official results show his party won over 50 percent of the vote. Pashinyan called the poll to shore up his mandate after a disastrous war with Azerbaijan last year.
Last year’s ceasefire saw Armenia lose large swathes of territory in the long-disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. The election result could impact the future of the agreement with Azerbaijan.
Russia sees a Pashinyan victory as a guarantee that the ceasefire agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan under mediation from Moscow will hold.

  1. How DW can keep a straight face while calling occupied Azerbaijani territory, that for thirty years has been experiencing Armenian settler colonialism is beyond me.

  2. Polling doesn't work in countries that the people fear to speak up publicly against the former opposition goons. Pashinyan won because he's the only non-corrupt, democratic and modern leader Armenia has had since their independence from former USSR. Additionally, Armenia did not "loose a war against Azerbeijan". The largest military in the middle east (Turkey) attacked a few thousand mountain Artsakh warriors and took some land in Turkey's continued expansionist agenda under the murderous dictator Erdogan. Azerbeijan had very little to do with their so called 'victory' over 'Armenia'. This is a fact, Azerbeijan would have never been able to advance an inch were it not for Turkish DIRECT support.

  3. Pashinyan–the best of the worst. The opposition had records of corruption and offered no vision for the future. They all are still suffering from Soviet-era hangovers.

  4. Here a curve ball, why is Google on trial for anti trust laws, if there are several search engines. Facebooks counterpart is MySpace, but I can’t figure out why we have no anti-trust lawsuits against YouTube…which has no actual competitor. Who won the election?

  5. The only way out of this turmoil is to stop any territorial claims against its neighbors, and get out of Russia's sphere of influence ASAP.
