Most of the data and research comes from three excellent reports by the Australia Institute:
🔸 “Sunk Costs”: documenting CCS’s failure to meet every, single, target, even those set by the industry. The Conclusion is stone cold brutal. The authors are killers. I love it: https://australiainstitute.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/P546-Sunk-costs-WEB.pdf
🔸 “Money for Nothing”: focusing in on the Australian government’s experiments with CCS and the eye-watering amounts of $$ that have been sharted away on this bullshit. This shows why CCS is better described as a PR campaign than a technology: https://australiainstitute.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/P357-Money-for-nothing_0.pdf
🔸 “Gorgon-tuan Problem”: zooming in even further to Australia’s CCS adventures with a closer look at the CCS failfest at Chevron’s Gorgon LNG plant in WA: https://australiainstitute.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/P635-Gorgon-tuan-Problem-Web.pdf

  1. This one's for all the calculator lovers

Hello friends, here's our latest Honest Government Ad – part of our Climate Sh*tf*ckery series in which we’re picking off each one of our government’s (and many governments’) strategies to avoid taking serious action on the climate crisis. We started off with the Kyoto Carryover Credits, then we looked at EV policy (FFS); then the infiltration of our science agencies. And in this HGA we look at one of the key pillars in our Government’s “Technology Investment Roadmap” to reach Net Zero emissions: Carbon Capture and Storage.

I plan to cover others as we head towards the election. It’s my hope that these HGAs will help to improve public literacy around climate and energy policy, so that more people will be better equipped to recognize bullshit solutions to the climate crisis when they spot them in the wild.

We’ll dive into more details about CCS in the Podcast companion for this HGA, which we’ll aim to publish early in the new week. And we’ll add the PG version to our Teachers page shortly.

As always, a huge thanks and acknowledgment to our Patrons, who make the Honest Government Ads possible.

  2. I enjoy a good laugh and slapping a calculator here etc but in reality nobody cares about carbon footprint or tree hugging agenda. Why is there no mention about totalitarian dictatorship Australia has become?

  3. Evs, Hydrogen, Solar, and Wind Turbines along with Hydroelectric, are all also bullshit, becuase it stipl takes metric fuck tons of power to make and manufacture the steel for it all.

  4. It's painful but it's true. What a world. Can't we just sack the lot of them? Surely there's a special section of the parliamentary legislation that states the entire government can be sent home till further notice if it is deemed the corruption is too high on all sides? Sorry Science Party.

  5. Australia can set an example by covering its desert in solar arrays and using molten salt batteries to have a 100% clean power. But make no mistake, it is expensive, at the state of the art today VERY inefficient and after 25 years these solar arrays need recycling, which might be even more environmentally bad, than what they produce in all their lifetime.. :-).

  6. While renewables are less of a scam then CCS its still a scam since they are not reliable and to make them so will cost so much that its not feasible. Nuclear is the only currently available technology that meets all criteria.

  7. Sadly, this one is kind of spot on – at the moment. However, I it’s important not to write off CCS just yet.

Unfortunately, it will be impossible to actually reach the climate goals without these technologies. It’s important to be aware of that ccs actually can be used (if powered by renewables) to capture CO2 directly from the air, and actually lowering the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere.

  8. I nearly sprayed my coffee all over the table I was laughing so much. There is a theme here, how lobbying has supplanted your vote and the public interest. Do we just pay politicians double, ban donations and stop them working for a decade after they leave politics?
