At least 46 people have been killed and dozens more seriously injured in a fire at a 13-storey tower block in southern Taiwan, officials say.
A residential and commercial building in the city of Kaohsiung caught fire in the early hours of Thursday morning, the local fire department said.
It took firefighters more than four hours to extinguish the blaze.
The fire department told the BBC that 79 people had been taken to hospital, including 14 in a serious condition.
The cause of the fire is unclear and investigators are at the scene.
Officials earlier warned that people may have been trapped in the residential part of the building, between the seventh and 11th floors.

I m surprised that BBC hasn't insinuated that the fire was started by supporters of China. If BBC can report that China committed genocide in Xinjiang, it can report anything out of thin air.
Having lived in a number of places in Taiwan for years, I don’t really agree it as a developed nation as the editor suggested. Many regulations r there without implementation or updates, hence, many serious incidents happened w many deaths n many more to come, unfortunately. There were times I can cry looking at what happened in the news knowing how ez it is to avoid if a society is properly developed by real politicians… loads of families died together in traffic incidents, High Speed Rails crashed, buildings collapsed or fire outbreaks, fighter planes crashed killing pilots, etc.
