Polish security forces use water cannons in clash with migrants | DW News

Security forces in Poland on Tuesday deployed water cannons and used tear gas on migrants who attempted to cross the Polish-Belarusian border.

Poland’s Border Guard said migrants had been throwing objects at security personnel. Limited access to the area due to Poland’s state of emergency has presented a challenge to the media, in terms of independently verifying versions of events.

Russia has condemned Poland’s use of force, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov telling media in Moscow: “The behavior of the Polish side is absolutely unacceptable.” According to Russian media, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has discussed the humanitarian situation with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg lent his support to Poland, saying the defense alliance was concerned about Lukashenko’s using migrants as a “hybrid tactic” against other countries.

  1. Russia's foreign minister has got a lot of nerve lecturing Poland about human rights considering they are perhaps the main enabler of this crisis. And not just this crisis either; it has had an even more direct role in the division, chaos and destruction that has plagued Ukraine for years now.

  2. It's impossible for any outsider just to fly in to Belarus without a visa – especially with a one way ticket ! They let them in on purpose ! Total respect for Poland & Lithuania.

  3. Dear DW News! I watched whole movie and heard only Russia and Belerus autorities statemets and NO Poland or Lithuania for information balance ! Its something I call manipulation.

  4. the terrorist Lukashenka accuses Poles of genocide. The cynical Lukashenka The director of the collective farm does not notice how brutally he suppressed the Belarusian freedom movement. Many of them are in prison. Poles from the national minority in Belarus are also held in prison. Amber greetings from Gdańsk.
