Brexit: Fishing row threats 'are not acceptable' minister warns

Environment Secretary George Eustice MP says Britain has been honouring the trade agreement with France and says ‘the reaction from France has been completely disproportionate’.

Mr Eustice said that the minority of French vessels that did not receive a licence to fish could not show a history of having done so in the past, a necessary condition for permission to be granted.

  1. If they don't like the rules they agreed too, simply cancel all French fishing and licences issued in those waters until a new agreement is reached.
Give the stocks room to recover a bit as well

  2. 55 French vessels not allowed and 163 allowed in Jersey waters. That’s just over 25% of vessels who applied not being allowed. The 2% figure for the whole of the U.K. could well be true but it doesn’t seem to be appropriate to quote in this case.

  3. Sadly, knowing that British politicians have and do lie (blatantly ),that they break international, signed agreements, that they are corrupt (expenses,Owen Paterson ) and that they are incompetent (PPE, £37bn Tand Trace )…….I no longer believe any Tory minister.

  4. And claiming we((UK) fished in norwegian waters for decades!!!wait until the fish moves due to climate change and dirty british waters…really funny is hearing a brexiteer demanding the EU to tell France what to do!!!!as if they weren't sovereign!!!do brits even recognize the stupidity???!I have no words anymore.

  5. Nobody thought that the French has to stick by the letter of the law. The British have a very touristic view of the law.

Oh sorry that was the British position on Ireland 😀

  6. UK GOVERNMENT SHOULD STOP GIVING FRANCE AND EUROPEAN UNION ACCESS TO IT WATERS..SINCE FRANCE THINK SEIZING UK FISHING BOATS IS THE ANSWER. IT IS TIME FOR UK GOVERNMENT TO LEAVE WITHOUT NO DEAR…UK GOVERNMENT SHOULD DO BUSINESS WITH….JAPAN. INDIA. SOUTH KOREA. AUSTRALIA. CANADA AND CHINA AND FORGET EUROPEAN UNION AND FRANCE….

  7. France is behaving with greed just like they did with the Australian submarine deal . Their not happy with 50% of the licences they want 100% . Never trust the French .

  8. Nice to see George Useless on form again. George, today (2nd of November is a Tuesday), your comments please – 'well I will always support colleagues in their decision making process when dealing with a matter of such importance.. But I must also say that I do not recognise some of the arguments made by others. But I am confident a resolution will be made'
