Higher temperatures and plastic pollution threaten oceans | DW News

Plastic pollution now plagues almost every species living in the oceans and, at the same time, sea surface temperatures once considered extreme have now become normal.

Those are the findings of two separate studies published in February ahead of the ongoing One Ocean Summit, a conference organized by French President Emmanuel Macron to protect marine life from overfishing, climate change and pollution. Together, the research papers tell a story of an ecosystem vital to human survival that is increasingly under attack.

  1. Its not only about plastic. We have to change our way of living drasticaly. The whole idea of a healthy economy needs to change ; unlimited grow on a planet with limitations is just the ultimati in stupidity.Akso its time to adres overpopulation, less consumation and so on…

  2. Humanity has had a competitive nature cultured into them that of which has become detrimental, when we become aware of the scale of plastic in our oceans why is it that immediate action and a global change of procedure and approach does not follow? Because each company producing plastic products is in competition with all the other companies producing plastic products, they all share a proportion of the market so neither will desire to risk adapting their business model in case it results in them losing the customer base they have secured to their competitors. Try as you may I have a totally different consciousness to you so unfortunately I guess I'm gonna have to suffer for it yet again.

  3. What about China overfishing all the worlds oceans? Oh but you’re not going to mention that are you because your communist Chinese sympathizers Asian countries put more plastic in the ocean than any other countries in the world

  4. Thank China will you, the way China fishing out and sending thousands of illegal fishing around the world to destructively destroy the world oceans.

  5. Few years ago, the EU, USA, Canada, and Australia were caught red-handed disposing tonnes of garbage to southeast asia countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, & The Philippines).

  6. It will be a desaster for all humanity !!!, if we can't clean our oceans up. Why, have we let, this happen!!!.
It is so selfish ove government's all over the world to leave this disaster to the,
Human beings that are left on
Our Amazing !!!, planet to deal with.

  7. You guys are weird. Worried about plastics in our oceans; at the same time fanning the effort for a war in Europe against Rusia.

Of course I don’t condone pollution anywhere; but we’re in evil times at the brink of a major war. May our Lord have mercy on us.
