Importance of Vitamin D
Vitamins are chemicals that your body needs to be healthy. Vitamins are vital for everyone and ensure that your body is functioning well and can fight disease and heal well. Unlike other vitamins, vitamin D works as a hormone, and every cell in your body contains receptors for it.
Vitamin D is a group of fat-soluble steroids responsible for increasing the intestinal absorption of calcium, magnesium, phosphates, and many other biological effects.
Vitamin D is essential for bone health. Calcium and phosphorus are required to build the structure and strength of your bones, and you need vitamin D to absorb these minerals. Your body must contain vitamin D to absorb calcium and promote bone growth. Decreased vitamin D leads to soft bones in children (rickets) and fragile deformed bones in adults (osteomalacia).
Vitamin D deficiency can lead to breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, heart disease, depression, weight gain, and other illnesses. Certain studies indicate that people with higher levels of vitamin D have a lower risk of infection. However, they do not conclusively demonstrate that vitamin D deficiency causes disease – or that vitamin D supplementation will reduce the risk. Vitamin D therapy helps treat autism, autoimmune diseases, cancer, chronic pain, depression, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, flu, neuromuscular disorders, and osteoporosis.
