In Germany, driving a car is a privilege like nowhere else, and the German highway – the Autobahn – is a worldwide symbol for unlimited speeding. Here, everyone is allowed to drive as fast as they like. But is that really true? And what other myths exist about the autobahn? Euromaxx reporter Meggin Leigh-Doody set out on the famous autobahn to find out what’s true, and what’s not.

"im pro the speed limit" whilst driving 120+ kmh in a 120 kmh speed limit
She topped off at 125 mph which is 202 kph.
Autobahn is the safest highway in the world
The meticulous and conscientious nature of German culture, as exemplified by things like the the rules governing the Autobahn, how Germans emphasize punctuality, and the precise engineering in their products, is why I have such fondness for it. So many other nations would do well to emulate this mentality.
In the USA it is NOT legal to pass on the right. Drivers in the USA do not follow the rules.
The price of gas is its own speed limit.
(:
The myth of unlimited speed has been busted by insurances and courts a long time ago. At speeds above 130 kmh, the driver always shares liability in case of an accident, by virtue of that speed, even when driving faultlessly – should be enough to throttle to reasonable speeds!
Voting against speed limit in Germany is similar to voting against gun ownership in the USA. For people from outside it makes no sense.
And anybody who really is putting the pedal to the medal these days is either a rich person, due to the crazy gasoline prices or just ignorant or probably both. And normaly traffic is much higher then shown in the video, so that accelerating and breaking all the time is also so much more unecological and also uneconomical as a this just let the fuel bill rising even more. but a lot of us Germans leave their common sense outside their cars as soon as the start their engines.
Try the Autobahn in the Ruhrgebiet. You are always stuck in traffic jams. No speeding possible
Haha this host.. “pro speed limit” but does not explain the reason behind her point of view. And is also unfamiliar with her own country’s laws on overtaking. Very embarrassing.
