Russia's reengagement with Africa pays off | DW News

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is on a four-nation tour to Africa. After visits to Egypt and the Republic of the Congo, Sergey Lavrov landed in Uganda on Tuesday and will continue onto Ethiopia.

Like many African nations, Uganda, Ethiopia and Congo have remained neutral on Russia’s war in Ukraine, with all three either abstaining or being absent during the UN’s General Assembly vote in March condemning Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

In recent years, Russia has increasingly used this historic Soviet connections to expand its political, economic and, above all, military relations with African nations.

  1. While the democratic countries are busy in their personal party time schedule, the communists regimes are busy infiltrating intelligence and global positioning to overcome the sleepy and greedy west…

  2. African genocidal dictators will always depend on foreigners and do anything for them to stay in power to loot the resources and become wealthy. These brutal corrupt dictators don't care of their own people and country but only themselves. There's no hope for Africa the cycle will continue.

  3. Africa has it's own problems and our problems are huge aswell. We are trying to grow as a continent that can react to it's needs to create an environment of stability and prosperity. We don't need to be forced into wars. We are all sovereign.

  4. It is non of your business. Africa can make a deal with anyone it wants. This is non of your business. In fact Russia is a far greater friend of Africa while the west still wants to continue its exploitation of African resources. We Africans will never forget what you have done to us, and what you still are doing to Africa. The source of all messes in Africa is the west. You cannot deceive us with your media anymore.

  5. Russia and Africa have been close for like 100 years not to mention Russia helped Africa in its fight against colonialism..they’ve never colonized Africans at all while the French is still there killing and stealing resources

  6. How about get official sentiments from African Diplomats or officials 8nstead of these fools passing for 'experts on African'.
For example Museveni or Abyei or Kagame or H.E Uhuru.

  7. Ah yes…Africa. Those Colossusses bestriding the globe. So influential. So omnipresent in the day to day. I wait with baited breath Lavrov's triumphal parade through Micronesia.

  8. If the west start having a cold shoulder towards Africa well it may hurt at first but it will absolutely beneficiary to us because it would make Africa learn to be truly independent and it will be the very beginning of liberation of Africa as a whole. Of course cold shoulder from the west will trigger unprecedented responds from Africa too.

  9. Somaliland could not have voted for the UN resolution as it is not a recognized country in UN. Somalia did vote for the pro western resolution. So the map is wrong. As it is in general.

  10. The End of Russia. The madness of power, visible in dictators, has to be studied scientifically. It is a psychic problem, and it affects millions of people ruled by dictators, who insist on keeping their people in misery and ignorance. Take the case of the Chinese dictator. A simple visit by a deputy causes the greatest confusion. The dictator of Russia, on the other hand, cannot see opposition, he orders everyone to be killed. Science for the good of humanity must give an opinion.

  11. The west don't have to tell Africa what to do. They are stealing billions each year in Africa. Through trade tax evasion. Secondly they don't want Africa to develop slowly we will stop using the dollar and euro start doing business with bricks

  12. I THINK I'M BLESSED BECAUSE IF NOT I WOULDN'T HAVE MET SOMEONE WHO IS AS SPECTACULAR AS EXPERT AVA LIO

I THINK SHE IS THE BEST BROKER EVERYONE SHOULD BE PROUD OFF

  13. Russia never invaded or enslaved Africans. Europeans did. Evrn till this day. Africans dont owe western countries anything. If anything, Africans have more conservative values, just like Russia. Africans don't share liberal values like western countries. Africa is mostly anti feminist, anti lgbt, etc. America is the opposite

  14. This journalist has learned how to report a story without Sensationalism & without making himself part of the reported objective issue!
DW should let him be supervisor to 'lesser qualified/self-obsessed' DW-journalists (who try to turn any object-issue into a flipping self-obsessed entertainment-piece)!
(Context: DW used to be a top-level-news-source; & hopefully will become again ditto by observing the fundamental rules of quality-investigative-journalism.)
